This will now be our fifth iteration of Run Azores and we couldn't be more pleased to be back in 2024!

Run Azores is a three-race running challenge, which covers the marathon distance over a 3 day period in early October. All three races take place on the island of Sao Miguel, the main island in the Azores archipelago.

The Challenge starts with an early evening urban 5K in Ponta Delgada on Wednesday October 9 before moving to the east of the island for the Tronqueira 18K trail run the following morning. The event reaches its climax with the wonderful Volcano Run, a 19K run around the rim of the massive volcanic crater of Sete Cidades on Friday October 11. The distances may not seem that daunting but don't be deceived by simple numbers, this is a tough event. It is a proper test of endurance with plenty of climbing, both up and down, on the two trail races.

But while it is certainly a challenge it is also an achievable one.  There are no cut offs on any of the races and all our runners who have started the challenge have finished it... and loved it.  With good reason because beyond the running, Run Azores is the perfect way to discover, explore and experience the Azores at ground level in combination with a wonderful island holiday.
